ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – Three groups have been shortlisted to submit request for proposals (RFPs) for the two new 60-bed long-term care homes in Gander and Grand Falls-Windsor.
Central Care Partnership, Infraworks and Newfoundland and Labrador Healthcare Partners have been invited to submit plans to design, build, finance and maintain the new facilities through a public-private partnership.
The winner will deliver both homes under a single contract with construction expected to begin in 2019.
The selection of the three groups follows the first-stage of the procurement process, a request for qualifications back in January.
“We have reached the next step and are maintaining momentum to deliver on our commitment to this new long-term care infrastructure for the people of the central region,” Transportation and Works Minister Steve Crocker said in a release on Tuesday, July 3.
“We remain focused on sound fiscal management, while at the same time finding creative solutions – like partnering with the business community – to deliver key infrastructure in a timely and cost-effective manner. I’m pleased to say we remain on track to begin construction next year.”
The groups will be required to submit full project proposals, which will include technical details on the construction and maintenance of the new facility and a more in-depth demonstration of their financial capacities to successfully deliver the project.
Women’s employment plans will also be required with their proposals.
It was recently announced the Grand Falls-Windsor home will be located on Scott Avenue, between Valley Road and the site of the former Abitibi Consolidated mill.
The Gander facility will be situated next to the College of the North Atlantic campus and accessible via Magee Road.
