At least one woman has been displaced from her home Saturday following a house fire on Nascopie Crescent in St. John’s centre.

When the St. John’s Regional fire department received the call and arrived on scene, thick black smoke was pouring out of the upper floor and roof of one unit of rowhouses. Firefighters made a quick entrance and were able to bring the fire under control quickly but not before the top floor suffered extensive damage. The exterior rear wall was burned and blackened with melted siding dangling from the home. The two units on either side of the fire were also affected but the extent that damage was not immediately known. The woman was checked by paramedics on scene but she did not have to go to hospital. Personnel and equipment from three stations responded to the incident. There was no word on the cause of the fire and the blaze is under investigation.
