A glaring example of that was seen over the weekend.

Of the 843 tickets issued by police this past weekend as part of the RCMP’s Operation Impact 2017, 628 of them were for speeding and aggressive driving.

During the Thanksgiving Day weekend, officers conducted patrols on the province’s highways and in communities, seeking impaired, aggressive and distracted drivers, as well as other violations, including seatbelt non-compliance.

In all, 3,061 vehicles were checked.

The most serious incident happened Friday afternoon on the Veterans Memorial Highway, where a 42-year-old Bay Roberts woman was killed as a result of a three-car collision. The incident is still being investigated by Bay Roberts detachment and B division traffic services.

It was one of the nearly 20 fatal crashes that have occurred in the last number of months across the province.

The RCMP remind the public enforcement initiatives will continue in the future.
