Just after midnight, HMP staff administered Narcan — a nasal form of naloxone — and first aid to an inmate who has suffered an apparent overdose.

Paramedics transported the inmate to hospital for further treatment, but he has since been returned to the correctional facility where he is under observation.

This is the second fentanyl overdose at HMP in recent weeks. A third overdose occurred within the walls of the facility, but officials have not confirmed if it was related to the powerful synthetic opioid pain medication.
