Glynda Dinn, 26, was released from custody Wednesday for the second time in just over a week, this time with extra conditions: she’s not allowed to access any form of social media, specifically Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat and Instagram.
“You open any social media site and you’ll be back here, paying us another visit,” Judge Jim Walsh told Dinn during her appearance in a St. John’s courtroom Wednesday morning. Dinn nodded her understanding.
Dinn was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with criminal harassment of Cathy Brake, owner of Jungle Jim’s on Torbay Road in St. John’s and Dinn’s former boss.
Dinn reportedly worked at the restaurant for six years and was manager for a period of time. She maintains she and other employees were poorly treated and that she is owed $4,000.
Dinn was also charged with two counts of breaking court orders: one count of failing to be of good behaviour in connection with the alleged harassment, and a count of failing to notify police of a change of address.
Dinn told the court Wednesday she hadn’t changed addresses and wasn’t aware she had been ordered to live with her mother. Walsh acknowledged there could have been a communication error in that regard.
The latest charges have been added to the four others Dinn is facing after her original arrest Aug. 21, when she staged a daylong protest in the parking lot of Jungle Jim’s in Coaker’s Meadow Plaza, which she broadcast live on Facebook through a series of videos.
Police were called to the plaza by Brake, who reported Dinn and others were disturbing the business, but officers deemed it a peaceful protest and left. They were called back a short time later, and Dinn was charged with mischief to property, causing a disturbance, theft and common assault, after she allegedly grabbed a woman by the arm.
Dinn, who deactivated her Facebook account before her most recent arrest, will be back in court on all seven charges Oct. 2.
Among the other conditions of Dinn’s release are orders that she have no contact with Brake and two other women as well as their families, and that she stay away from all Jungle Jim’s locations. She’s also ordered to stay at least 500 metres away from Coaker’s Meadow Plaza.
