Last sentence handed down in Baie Verte home invasion

GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR, NL – A female youth was sentenced to six months in jail and a year of probation in connection with a home invasion and armed robbery that occurred in Baie Verte in 2015.

The sentence was delivered at provincial court in Grand Falls-Windsor on Sept. 19. She was the last of five individuals who were convicted of the crime to be sentenced.

On Nov. 21, 2015, the RCMP responded to a home invasion in Baie Verte whereby a man had been forcibly confined to his wheelchair, assaulted and threatened.

He suffered minor injuries from the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment. A quantity of cash was stolen during the robbery.

Two other youth, both males, were previously sentenced to six months and nine months in jail, respectively, with each also receiving two years of probation.

On Jan. 17, 2017, Maxwell Canning, 22, was sentenced in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador to four and a half years in jail.

Devin Morey, 19, also received a four-and-a-half-year sentence for his role in the crime at provincial court in Grand Falls-Windsor on Aug. 1, 2017.
