Lawyers in David Loveys’ case participated in a focus hearing, held in private to clarify how a preliminary inquiry will proceed. The inquiry is set for Oct. 3 and scheduled to last three days.

Loveys, 22, of Mount Pearl, was arrested and originally charged with dangerous driving and assault with a weapon after he allegedly knocked three people down with his vehicle on Bartlett Place in St. John’s on Sept. 24 of last year. Two of them received serious but non-life-threatening injuries; the third was treated in hospital and released.

Four months later, police laid more charges.

“Following further investigation that occurred in the months since the incident, investigators with the RNC Major Crime Unit laid additional charges,” police said in a statement last January.

Loveys, who has no previous criminal record, stands charged with three counts of attempted murder, three counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and three counts of uttering threats. He is represented by lawyer Mark Gruchy.
