Man accused of attempted murder released on bail

A man charged with attempted murder was released on bail Monday in St. John’s.

Masih Allahbakhshi was charged with trying to kill another man during a hike on the North Head Trail on Signal Hill on April 7.

The two international students were hiking when Allahbakhshi allegedly grabbed the complainant and pushed him over the cliff. Sources told The Telegram the two ended up falling more than 20 feet.

The complainant suffered minor injuries and got away.

Police found Allahbakhshi a short time later and took him into custody.

Originally charged with assault, Allahbakhshi was charged with attempted murder after the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary investigated the incident.

Allahbakhshi was released on bail Monday under conditions, including that he leaves his passport with the court. He will appear in court for election and plea on the morning of June 7.
