A man accused of assaulting an elderly female relative at a hockey game last week has been released from custody.

Adam Whalen, 32, is said to have assaulted the woman at the game last Saturday after she told him he was making too much noise.

Whalen appeared in provincial court in St. John's for a bail hearing Wednesday morning, and was released to await his next court appearance.

Whalen has other matters before the court. He is set to enter pleas next month on three assault charges, a charge of assault with a weapon — a metal cannister cover — and four breaches of court orders, in connection with a Boxing Day incident involving two other family members.
