Man charged with assaulting RNC officers in St. John's

A 30-year-old man is expected to appear in provincial court in St. John’s this morning after being arrested Tuesday evening for allegedly assaulting police officers.

The RNC responded to the Health Sciences Centre Library about 6:55 p.m. after receiving a report of a suspicious male at the location.

The male was reported to be extremely agitated and had left the area before RNC officers arrived. Officers located the man shortly after and he became confrontational with them. He was arrested and charged with three counts of assault on police officers and held in custody overnight for court today.

In another case earlier on Tuesday, a 26-year-old man was issued tickets for driving a vehicle with no driver’s licence and no insurance.

The incident occurred about 11 a.m. in the centre area of St. John’s.

The vehicle was seized.
