Chad Kelvin Brown appeared in provincial court in Corner Brook late Tuesday morning.
He was arrested about 10 hours before when police were called to a Humber Road home at just after 2 a.m.
It’s alleged he broke into the residence and confined and assaulted a 25-year-old woman. He's also charged with break and enter and assault.
According to police, Brown and the woman are known to each other.
The woman received minor injuries as a result of the incident.
When Brown appeared in court the Crown indicated it was agreeable to his release on an undertaking.
Besides staying away from the woman, he also has to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and appear in court on the Oct. 17.
The late return date was set because Brown, who works as a hunting guide, soon has to return to work in a remote location for several weeks.
While he is not allowed to conceal a knife on his person or possess any prohibited weapons, he is allowed to be present where they are due to his work.
Brown is also not allowed to consume alcohol or enter any licensed establishment and is prohibited from possessing, consuming or trafficking in any illegal drugs.
