Adam Alexander Johnson was sentenced today to four years in prison for his part in a home invasion and robbery on Springdale Street in downtown St. John's Dec. 5, 2011.

The sentence was the same recommended by both Crown and defence lawyers in the case.

Judge Mike Madden gave Johnson one-and-half times credit for the 192 days he's spent in jail, leaving 39 months on the sentence left to serve.

Johnson, 23, had pleaded guilty to several charges including robbery, unlawfully entering a house, two counts of possessing stolen property and breaching court orders.

His co-accused in the case, Bradley Delaney, was sentenced to three years in prison last month.

At around 6 p.m., on the day of the crime, Johnson, Delaney and another man ran in the unlocked front door of the house and up the stairs. The occupants of the house, who had been home at the time watching TV, tried to stop them, but were assaulted and threatened.

The home invaders escaped through the bedroom window, having made off with several electronic items, including an iPod, iPad and laptop.

One of the men, who wasn't identified, ran off after the robbery and hasn't been located.

Johnson and Delaney ran into a nearby house on Casey Street to try to hide from police, but officers found them. Johnson was hiding in a closet, while Delaney was behind a couch.

Some of the stolen items from Springdale Street were found in a knapsack they had.

Also among the items was an Apple iPod, which had been stolen in a break-in on Cairo Street the day before. Police identified it from the serial number. It also had the owner's name written on it.
