Mount Pearl, N.L. — A 43-year-old man is in the lockup this morning (Saturday) awaiting a court appearance for drunk driving and other charges after he had two accidents and tried to flee both.

At 7:30 pm Friday, RNC patrol officers responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision in Mount Pearl after a vehicle drove onto a residential lawn and struck a tree.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene and was involved in a second motor vehicle collision with a taxi a short distance from the first collision.

The driver ran off but was arrested by police nearby with the help of several witnesses from the community.

After failing the Breathalyzer the driver was charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm, failing the breathalyzer, assault, uttering threats and dangerous driving under the Criminal Code.

In addition, he was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with operating without insurance, failing to transfer ownership, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

The accused owed in excess of $2,800 in outstanding fines and was held overnight for his court appearance.
