The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District had said on Friday afternoon an external threat was made in relation to Stephenville High School and as a safety precaution the school enacted its secure school protocol.

The RCMP were contacted and attended the school and, based upon the advice of the police, a lockdown protocol was then enacted.

Armed police spent the afternoon outside the school, where there ended up being no threat to the general student population and students were subsequently released from school when the all clear was provided by the RCMP.

Butler said police acted on the information before them and fortunately everyone went home with nobody hurt.

He said an investigation into the matter continues.
