When Matthew Douglas Twyne appeared in provincial court Thursday, lawyers agreed to have him remain in custody while his case is dealt with.
His next court appearance is May 29.
The 31-year-old was arrested at 9 p.m. as he was leaving a dance studio on LeMarchant Road, where several children under the age of 16 were said to have been taking classes.
When staff reportedly saw Twyne exposing himself through the glass window, they immediately called police. RNC patrol officers arrived minutes later and, while arresting Twyne, they found he was carrying a knife.
He faces charges of committing an indecent act, possessing a concealed weapon and breaching court orders, including what’s known as an 810.1 order, which includes conditions that are put in place for a sexual offender who is believed to be a high risk to reoffend.
Twyne has an extensive history of indecent exposure incidents.
He has four previous convictions for that crime — two each in 2014 and 2015.
Twyne, who has been on 810.1 orders in the past, also has convictions for several other offences, including thefts, assaults and other court breaches.
