Howell was arrested on May 4, 2016 when police were called about an assault at a house on Rickett’s Road in St. John’s. Neighbours said he had beaten a woman with a stick.

Howell, who has been in custody since that night, has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and breaching court orders, among other charges. He was originally charged with attempted murder and assault with a weapon, but those charges were dropped in exchange for the guilty pleas on other charges.

Howell’s case was called in provincial court Monday and set over until April 18.
