The man was in hospital with life-threatening injuries but the Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP just announced that he has succumbed to his injuries.

Police have not identified the homeowner, but they have reported the homeowner was not injured during the incident.

Gilbert Budgell, 53 of Botwood, who had been charged with attempted murder, has now been charged with second degree murder. He is also charged with a firearms offence.

A second suspect in the home invasion is still at large.

Police say their search of the Botwood home is complete.

The RCMP says there doesn’t appear to be any risk to the public.

Anyone with information who could help in the investigation is asked to call the Grand Falls-Windsor detachment of the RCMP at 709-489-2121 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
