The company surprised staff by announcing two winners of its annual employee dream program.
Shantel Marshall, who joined the company last February as receptionist and just met the one-year requirement to qualify for the Dream Program, will travel to Alberta to meet her older sister. Marshall didn’t know about the sibling until she was 16 and has wanted to meet her ever since.
John Mallay, an accountant at South Coast Insurance for more than 12 years, will celebrate his 40th wedding anniversary by travelling across the province in a rented motor home this summer.
South Coast Insurance launched the program last year and contributes up to $10,000 to make an employee’s dream come true. Employees submit their 50-word dream cards anonymously and a panel of three independent judges vote on the winner.
“I’m very excited to announce that because of the modest nature of the two dreams with the most votes, South Coast Insurance is able to award two dreams for 2017,” the company’s president, Kelly Hickman, said in a press release.
This year’s judges were Charlene Evans, a social worker with the Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development; Krista Young, a kindergarten French immersion teacher at Sacred Heart Academy and Sgt. Mike Babstock of the Burin Peninsula RCMP.
