Firefighters from the Mount Pearl and Brookfield stations responded to the scene and found heavy smoke coming from the home.
Platoon chief Brian Tucker said the first floor of the home was extensively damaged during the incident but there were no injuries because the residents were not home at the time of the blaze.
The blackened windows were broken out during the efforts to fight the fire and smoke escaping from the home left discoloured siding. A side door is left open as well. A patrol vehicle from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is parked in front of the house guarding the scene.
The incident is under investigation.
