The RNC is asking the public’s help to solve a theft of drugs from a house in Mount Pearl during what appears to have been a botched home invasion Saturday. They’re also warning that the drugs include dangerous narcotics.

Two masked, knife-wielding men broke into a house off Park Avenue Saturday night.

An older woman who is ill was home alone during the incident. She was completely shaken by the terrifying ordeal the woman’s husband told The Telegram Saturday.

The husband said he wasn’t home when the break-in happened just before 10 p.m., adding the men forced their way into the home through a rear patio door and demanded to know where a certain other male, whom they named, was located.

They also wanted to know the location of a gun he said.

When the woman told them that no man by that name lived there and they had the wrong house, they asked whether she had any drugs in the house before fleeing the scene on foot.

The RNC said Sunday they are concerned about the types of drugs stolen and consider their potential availability on the street to be a public safety concern. The type of drugs included are Morphine SR, Morphine Sulfate, and Irbesartan.

On Saturday Royal Newfoundland Constabulary vehicles could be seen cruising the streets shortly after the invasion, with lights and sirens activated in an effort to locate the two men.

A K-9 team was also spotted in the area.

Officers went house to house following the incident interviewing neighbours, some of whom were standing outside watching the investigation unfold.

A forensic identification officer arrived soon afterwards and entered the home to gather evidence.

The victim was not physically harmed.

The RNC told The Telegram Sunday that no other information will be released, and that the investigation is still ongoing. In the meantime, the police have asked anyone with information to report it by contacting the RNC at 709-729-8000 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can now provide anonymous information on the NL Crime Stoppers Website at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
