St. John’s, N.L. — There was lots of excitement, laughter and colour at the St. John’s Recreational Centre at Buckmasters Circle in St. John’s Saturday just after lunch as mummers of all ages and sizes suited up to take to the streets.

These folks were suited up and ready to join the parade that was due to begin 2 p.m.

The rain tapered off and temperatures rose slightly Saturday, enough for organizers to declare the parade a go. The mummers were to march from the rec centre, across Ricketts Road, up St. Clare and Morris avenues.

After today’s parade, participants planned to converge upon neighbourhood school Bishop Abraham Elementary to dance and make merry in the Scuff ‘n’ Scoff for about an hour from 3-4 p.m.

The Mummers Parade is part of the Mummers Festival that started Nov. 30 and will go until Dec. 14. See story and photo feature by David Maher in Monday's Telegram.
