A new list of 97 universities across Canada and how much Twitter reach they have has just been released by Twitter Canada.
McGill University (@McGillU)) muscled its way to the top of the list, weighing in with 82,200 followers — 25 per cent more than second-ranked University of Waterloo (@Uwaterloo).
While MUN didn’t crack the top 10, its 29,000 followers did earn it a very respectable 14th place on the list.
Twitter based its list on the 97 Canadian universities listed on the Universities Canada website — of which 99 per cent maintain an active Twitter presence.
While McGill may top the list, Western University (@westernu) is the most active, logging more than 35,000 Tweets. By way of contrast, MUN has 14,400 Tweets logged.
But in terms of which university took to the twitterverse first, Simon Fraser University claims that honour, being the first Canadian university to log on to Twitter way back in August 2008.
