ST. JOHN’S, NL – The provincial government has announced several initiatives to improve services at Crown Lands, including a new land use inquiry map that is available to the public.
According to a news release from the Department of Fisheries and Land Resources today, Feb. 14, residents and organizations can now access online mapping to find where Crown Lands may be available.
As well, Minister Gerry Bryne announced the implementation of a toll-free, dedicated inquiries line and email address; a 90 business day service standard; and a commitment to eliminate the department’s application backlog.
Crown Lands receives roughly 10,000 inquiries annually. The toll-free telephone number (1-833-891-3249) and email address ([email protected]) can be used to obtain information on the Crown Lands application process or to inquire about submitted applications.
Crown Lands has had a consistent backlog, estimated to be growing at a rate of around 1,000 applications per year. Teams dedicated to addressing those backlogs have been established in each region of the province.
Meanwhile, for all new applications received, a new 90 business day service standard will be implemented whereby all applicants will receive a response within that timeframe.
“Once chronically understaffed and neglected, with a crushing backlog of applications, today the Crown Lands Division is on an established path, making great strides in the delivery of vital services that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians expect, and deserve,” Byrne said.
