Newfoundland and Labrador reports no new COVID-19 cases for ninth-straight day

Three patients remain hospitalized, with one of them in intensive care

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Newfoundland and Labrador has recorded another day with no new cases of COVID-19.

In a news release issued Saturday, May 16, the provincial government announced 249 of the 260 people who have contracted the virus have recovered, with 10,525 tests completed — 179 more since the previous day.

That's now nine-straight days with no new cases reported in the province. Since the beginning of May, there have only been three new cases reported. On Friday, chief medical officer of health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald announced one case previously considered positive was now deemed to be inconclusive.

Three patients remain in hospital with the virus. One of those patients is in intensive care. Three people in Newfoundland and Labrador have died due to COVID-19.

The regional breakdown of the 260 cases is as follows:

· Eastern Health - 242

· Central Health - 8

· Labrador-Grenfell Health - 6

· Western Health – 4
