ST. JOHN’S, NL – Newfoundland and Labrador has signed a driver’s licence reciprocity agreement with Taiwan.

The deal brings the total number of such agreements the province has in place with other jurisdictions outside Canada to 12, according to a news release from the provincial government.

The agreement means the driver’s licences of Taiwan residents who are living, studying or working in the province are valid and they won’t need to complete any examination.

It also works in the reverse for residents of Newfoundland and Labrador living in Taiwan.

“Reciprocity agreements allow for an easier transition for anyone immigrating or doing business in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Service NL Minister Sherry Gambin-Walsh.

“We have a strong focus on improving services to the people of the province, making it easier for everyone to live and work here.”

Reciprocal agreements with other jurisdictions for driver’s licences are permitted under the Highway Traffic Act.
