Amanda Kavanagh, 10, from Marystown and Nyah Barrett, 8, of Paradise have been selected as runners-up from among 10,000 entries across the country in Genworth Canada’s Meaning of Home Contest.
Now in its tenth year, the contest supports Habitat for Humanity Canada.
For the contest, students in grades 4, 5 and 6 were asked, "What is the Meaning of Home?"
Amanda and Nyah were two of 10 second-place winners and were awarded $5,000 each to help families build homes in Newfoundland.
Both will direct their grants to Habitat for Humanity Newfoundland.
They will also enjoy a pizza party with their classmates.
