One man is dead following a vehicle-pedestrian collision in the Goulds area of St. John’s early Friday morning.

The man was apparently struck by a northbound pickup about one kilometre south of Ruby Line in the Goulds.

When the Telegram arrived on scene paramedics from the St. John’s Regional fire department were tending to the victim on the side of the road until Eastern Health paramedics arrived.

The medical personnel left afterwards and turned the scene over to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary to investigate the incident. Officers placed pylons on the road and photographed the area in front of the pickup in question.

While the circumstances surrounding this collision are under investigation, the RNC said later Friday it can confirm that alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor. The identity of the victim will not be released.

The RNC offered its condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
