Wedgewood Park native and former Canadian Olympic swim team member Paula Kelly stands on the deck of the Paula Kelly Aquatic Centre, named after her at the newly open Paul Reynolds Community Centre in St. John's.

The centre has 74,000 square feet of overall space, including a 25-metre pool and a leisure pool, two waterslides, fully accessible changing rooms, a full-sized gymnasium, as well as a fitness area and an outdoor playground scheduled to be constructed this year. The centre also has dedicated areas for youth, children and seniors, as well as several multi-purpose rooms.

Gail Vincent, a regular user of the former Wedgewood Park Recreation Centre, and now the Paul Reynolds Community Centre, was the first member of the public to go for a swim in the brand new facility as it had its grand opening Thursday. She said she swims five days a week.
