The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter honoured various philanthropists, volunteers and professionals within the province’s charitable sector Wednesday during a lunch hour ceremony at Clovelly Golf Club in St. John’s.

Genoa Designs International was honoured as the recipient of Outstanding Philanthropist – Corporate for its incredible efforts in raising funds for the Children’s Wish Foundation.

HMCS Run the Rock took the award for Outstanding Special Event, and the Heavy Civil Association won Outstanding Philanthropist – Individual or Group.
“National Philanthropy Day is the day we recognize and pay tribute to the contributions that philanthropy — and philanthropists — have made to our great city and our nation,” AFP NL Chapter president Rebecca Dutton said.

“With the change in economic outlook, charities have to rely more and more on individual contributions. Our honorees today have made the commitment to support philanthropy throughout Newfoundland and Labrador and keep the spirit of civic betterment alive and strong.”

The Association of Fundraising Professionals represents 33,000 fundraisers in more than 240 chapters throughout the world, working to advance philanthrophy through advocacy, research, education and certification programs.
The association fosters development and growth of fundraising professionals and promotes high ethical standards in the fundraising profession.
