Power out in several metro St. John’s areas

Faulty breaker causes power outage originating at Kenmount Road Substation

A wide swathe of St. John’s was without power for approximately 30 minutes Thursday morning.

A breaker at the Kenmount Road substation malfunctioned and caused widespread power outages that ran from Kenmount Terrace, along Kenmount Road and surrounding areas, the Avalon Mall and the O’Leary Industrial Park to homes and businesses in the Blackmarsh Road area.

In took Newfoundland Power about 30-minutes to fix the breaker and have it back up and running.

The power was restored around 11:40 a.m.

The power has gone out in several areas of St. John’s, affecting more than 1,000 customers.

Newfoundland Power is investigating. Some of the areas include the O’Leary Industrial Park, Kenmount Terrace, Frecket Drive, Kelsey Drive, Mount Carson Avenue, Pearlview Subdivision, Cowan Heights, Thorburn and Blackmarsh roads.

Th power was beign restored by 11:30 a.m.
