The department is seeking proposals from existing commercial farmers, part-time commercial farmers or new farmers.

The areas available include Lethbridge (Big Pond), Wooddale South Extension, Reidville, Conception Bay South, Heatherton, Loch Lomond, Shearstown and Goulds, as well as Mud Lake and Happy Valley-Goose Bay in Labrador.

“We are working with stakeholders to increase agriculture production which in turn will advance food security measures and help farmers and producers reduce costs and dependency on imported dairy forage and grain,” department minister Steve Crocker stated in a release.

Information packages are available online or by mail.

The department is also making $3.25 million available under the Provincial Agrifood Assistance Program.

The funding, available to those involved in the primary or secondary processing activities, will be provided for land development and agricultural infrastructure.
