Stacey was picked up by police Wednesday on a warrant that was issued last month, stemming from an incident that was said to have happened Feb. 13, when Stacey reportedly stole a can of Red Bull from Dominion supermarket on Blackmarsh Road in St. John's. Security officers reportedly chased him, but couldn't catch him as he ran across Columbus Drive. Plain-clothes RNC officers came to his house Wednesday night and arrested him.
Stacey looked anxious as he was led into Courtroom No. 7 in provincial court.
Judge Mark Pike told him that lawyers have agreed to release Stacey on an undertaking with strict conditions. He nodded and was escorted out by sheriff's officers.
He's scheduled to be back in court June 16.
The 25-year-old was found not guilty of second-degree murder at Newfoundland Supreme court in December 2016.
He was accused of murdering Cliff Comerford, his co-worker, in the back of a company shuttle on Jan. 11, 2015.
Stacey and Comerford were among a group of chicken catchers on their way to work that night. When the van stopped at Greenwood Crescent in Mount Pearl to pick up Stacey at around 9 p.m., witnesses say Comerford and Stacey got into a heated argument outside the van. When they finally got back in, Comerford attacked Stacey in the backseat.
Comerford ended up in a pool of blood, having been stabbed six times, with five additional cuts found in his coat. In a panic, Stacey ran out of the van.
Following a lengthy trial, a jury found there was not enough evidence to convict him.
