Police are on the scene at a residence in Botwood, where a man who is believed to be armed has barricaded himself inside.

The RCMP’s Emergency Response Team has been activated and is on their way to the scene, police stated Tuesday night in a news release.

Officers from the RCMP’s Grand Falls-Windsor detachment’s Police Dog Services section are at the man’s residence on Adam’s Avenue in Botwood.

Military Road and Adam’s Avenue remain closed to allow for police operations and for public safety, the RCMP stated.

Police have asked nearby residents to remain in their homes while officers continue to work toward a resolution. Police are asking for the public’s patience and co-operation in abiding by any barricades that are in place to set up a safe perimeter of the area.
