RNC attend armed standoff on Kennedy Road in St. John's

UPDATE: A standoff in St. John's ended peacefully before 10:30 a.m. with the suspect giving himself up to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.

The suspect walked out of the Kennedy Road house with police and Eastern Health paramedics and was en route to hospital.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary are on the scene of what appears to be an armed standoff on Kennedy Road in St. John's on Monday morning.
The Telegram's Joe Gibbons is reporting that Eastern Health paramedics have just entered the basement apartment where the main has been holed up since around 9:15 a.m.
This follows the RNC going into the apartment just before 10 a.m.
They were called to the scene around 9:15 a.m. in what appeared to be a fire call. Upon arrival the nature of the call changed.
It was reported there was smoke showing coming from a basement apartment at the time.
The RNC have a PSD officer and K9 unit on scene and they have been talking with the occupant through an open window.
The man tossed something out the window prior to the RNC officers entering the apartment and this item was retrieved by officers stationed there.
The area around Colville Street was blocked off to all traffic and two St. John's Regional Fire Department vehicles werestanding by.
