The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating an armed robbery that occurred in St. John’s city centre last night around 10:15 p.m.
An unknown man was confronted by several people outside the store following the robbery. He was reported as being armed with a weapon and was able to flee the scene.
The RNC is reporting he got away with an undisclosed amount of money and merchandise.
Police are reporting no injuries occurred during the robbery, which remains under investigation.
In another call around 10 p.m. in Upper Gullies, the RNC were called to a construction site after suspicious activity was reported at the C.B.S. location.
The RNC arrested a 33-year-old man and charged him with break and entry, malicious damage and breaching court orders.
He was held in jail overnight pending a court appearance.
In addition, the RNC responded to the scene of two structure fires overnight including one at Colonial Street in St. John’s around 10 p.m. and a second fire at 55 Regent Street around 2:30 a.m. to assist the St. John’s Regional Fire Department.
At the Regent Street location, extensive damage was done to an attached garage, the home was damaged and he four occupants who escaped the blaze were displaced in the middle of the night.
An earlier fire Monday night displaced one man and damaged his home on Colonial Street.
The homeowner had already left his dwelling when firefighters arrived. He was examined him for smoke inhalation.
