RNC investigating fatal traffic accident on Pitts

St. John’s, N.L.  — The Royal Newfoundland is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred Thursday afternoon on Pitts Memorial Drive in Mount Pearl.

About 4:45 pm, police, firefighters and Eastern Health paramedics responded to the accident that involved two vehicles, one of which was severely damaged when it collided with a utility pole.

The vehicle that collided with the utility pole was carrying three men, including the 21-year-old driver, whom police have confirmed died in hospital from his injuries. Two passengers were also taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Both vehicles were travelling west bound on Pitts Memorial Drive in the area of Richard Nolan Drive at the time of the collision and the cause of this accident is under investigation.

The RNC will not be releasing the identity of the deceased man, and has offered sincerest condolences to his family and friends.
