RNC names new deputy chief

Woodruff named second in command, six others named superintendents, inspectors

Paul Woodruff has been named deputy chief of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.

The former inspector, born in Twillingate, has been with the RNC since 1986.

He was elevated to deputy chief by RNC Chief Joe Boland during a ceremony at RNC headquarters on Thursday.

The promotion was one of seven announced at the event emceed by Const. Georgina Short in front of family, friends and colleagues.

In addition, two former inspectors — Ed Oates and Shawn O’Reilly — were elevated to superintendent positions.

In addition, four new inspectors were installed, including the husband and wife team of Tom and Sharon Warren, who previously held the position of sergeant, and Alex Brennan and Paul Roach.

Boland, in advancing these officers to new positions, changed their shoulder flashes to reflect their new ranks.

He said there were a lot of good candidates for the positions, and thanked everyone who had applied for their interest and said those who were selected will best serve the type of policing he wants to have for the public.

Boland said the RNC is a team and each of these individuals will act as a leader for those they serve and for the members who serve with them.

The following are the posts each of the newly promoted officers are assigned to:

Deputy Chief Paul Woodruff: deputy chief of police, operational patrol services division;

Supt. Shawn O’Reilly: officer in charge, criminal investigation division, Northeast Avalon region;

Supt. Ed Oates: officer in charge, operational patrol services division, Northeast Avalon region;

Insp. Paul Roche: officer in charge, crimes against persons section, criminal investigation division, Northeast Avalon region;

Insp. Alex Brennan: platoon commander, platoons C and D, operational patrol services division, Northeast Avalon region;

Insp. Sharon Warren: officer in charge, property and economic crimes section, criminal investigation division, Northeast Avalon region;

Insp. Tom Warren: officer in charge, Labrador West region.
