The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary issued a pair of seven-day driving bans resulting from a road check on Super Bowl Sunday night.

Approximately 50-vehicles were stopped during a roadside checkpoint in the West End of St. John’s at around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday evening which resulted in two driver’s receiving suspensions.

The first offence occurred at 12:30 a.m. resulting in a 32-year-old male receiving a seven-day suspension and had his vehicle impounded.

The second offence was registered just 15-minutes later, at 12:45 a.m., when a 37-year-old man also received a seven-day suspension and had his vehicle impounded.

In another West End incident, from earlier in the evening, a 19-year-old man was charged with mischief stemming from an argument between he and another individual around 9 p.m.
The 19-year-old damaged the vehicle of the other driver.

He was released and is to appear in court at a later date.

In addition, at 2:15 a.m., the RNC arrested a 28-year-old male who was reported to be going through vehicles in a centre neigbourhood.

He was charged with breaching a court order and for public mischief. He was held in lockup overnight pending a court appearance Monday morning.
