St. John’s, N.L. — The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is praising changes in coverage provided by Workplace NL to broaden its coverage for work-related traumatic mental health issues.
“This new policy recognizes that first responders can develop mental stress disorders resulting from an employee’s involvement in multiple traumatic events (cumulative effect) and removes the limitation on claims arising from traumatic events that form part of the ‘inherent risk’ of the occupation,” said the RNC in a release Friday morning.

“The very nature of the work carried out by RNC employees puts them at an increased risk of exposure to multiple traumatic events during their career. As an employer, the RNC is aware of the effects of occupational stress injuries and have been proactive in the mental wellness of our employees.  This certainly is great news for RNC employees affected by cumulative traumatic events,” said the release.
