Search underway for missing berry picker in Whitbourne area

WHITBOURNE, N.L. – Search efforts are in progress to find 67-year-old Harvey Rowe of Broad Cove.

According to a RCMP release, police received a call Rowe was missing at around 11 p.m. Wednesday night, Aug. 8. He had gone berry picking earlier that day along a dirt road between Markland and Colinet.

Rowe is described as five-foot-seven and 130 pounds. He was wearing dark-coloured clothing, including a ball cap, pants, jacket and sneakers.

Officers with the Placentia and Whitbourne RCMP detachments, the RCMP’s police dog services, members of the Avalon North Wolverines ground search and rescue team and helicopters from Fire and Emergency Services’ air support are assisting in the search.

Anyone with information on Rowe’s whereabouts is asked to call the Whitbourne RCMP at 709-759-2600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
