A sixth pedestrian has been struck by a vehicle in the downtown area of St. John’s in just one week, almost to the hour. Five out of those six have involved taxis, including this latest collision. This incident happened just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the intersection of Casey and Brazil Streets when a man apparently crossed Casey Street in front of the oncoming cab. The taxi left an approximately fifteen-meter long skid mark as the driver tried to stop. A witness was overheard saying the victim rolled over the hood of the vehicle before falling to the ground. An RNC officer on scene said the man’s injuries did not appear serious. Starting early last Saturday at about the same time of morning, there was a spate of vehicle-pedestrian collisions in just a few days, prompting police to issue safety tips for both pedestrians and drivers.
