The conference gave female students the opportunity to explore careers in the skilled trades industry. Trades-people and technologists will have their skills on display during the annual Skilled Career Day activities set for Friday.
The event is scheduled for Friday, March 23 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the College of the North Atlantic- Prince Philip Drive in St. John’s.
Skills Canada Newfoundland and Labrador’s Annual Skilled Career Day is dedicated to celebrating the work of skilled trades-people and technologists and highlighting the array of rewarding career opportunities available in skilled trades and technologies.
Attractions of the day include: Try-A-Trade® demonstrations, a career showcase, guided tours, a partnership luncheon with guest speakers from the provincial and federal government, a Skills Work for Women® Conference, an Alumni Connect Conference and most prominently, the Skills Canada Provincial Competitions.
The schedule of activities throughout the day will include:
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. – Skills Canada Provincial Competitions
9-11:30 a.m. - Try-A-Trade® Demonstrations
12-1:30 p.m. – Partnership luncheon
7:30 p.m. – Awards ceremony
In addition, there will be a host of other events taking place at various sites on campus throughout the day.
More than 350 regional finalists from across Newfoundland and Labrador will compete in over 40 competition areas with gold-medal winners forming Team Newfoundland and Labrador and going on to represent the province at the 24th Annual Skills Canada National Competition in Edmonton from June 3-6.
