Small claims case of man suing hometown Brent’s Cove set over until 2018

A small claims case in which a St. John’s man suing his hometown over a property tax dispute has been set over until February 2018.

Michael Sullivan is disputing a tax bill from Brent’s Cove suggesting he owes unpaid taxes on his summer home. The town is countersuing for those back taxes amounting to roughly $3,000.

Part of Sullivan’s argument he doesn’t owe the taxes centres on a forensic accounting report suggesting the town filed a claim on a $50,000 insurance policy to recover alleged misappropriated funds.
