He was uninjured, but the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) says he was on a number of court order conditions, including not to operate a motor vehicle.
The accident happened shortly before 8 p.m.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident around 9:30 p.m., a 52-year-old man was charged with impaired driving and failing the breathalyzer after police saw a car being driven erratically at a high rate of speed in centre-city St. John's.
The man was released to appear in court at a later date.
