The smell of gas lingered in the air after a house in Kilbride was hit by a Molotov cocktail attack early Monday morning.

Platoon chief Peter Fowler of the St. John’s Regional fire department said when firefighters arrived on scene on the street in Kilbride at about 2 a.m., the side of the home had been scorched by the incendiary device and there was fire on, and under, the patio. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, a male resident spoke RNC officers that had responded to the scene. A red gas container sat nearby, partially buried in a snow bank.

Several curious neighbours were looking out through their windows as police investigated the incident. It appeared the damage to the home was limited to the outside of the structure and there were no injuries. No information was available as to whether this was a targeted or random incident.

More details will be provided as they become available.
