St. John’s pair arrested for breaking into parking meters

St. John’s, N.L. — An off-duty city employee called police after witnessing a man and woman breaking into parking meters downtown early Friday evening.

About 7 p.m. RNC officers checked the area of Water Street after receiving the call.

Police located the suspects, and after a brief investigation both were charged with property damage and theft under $5,000.

The man, 44, was held in custody and will make a court appearance this morning (Saturday). A 28-year-old woman was released and will appear in court at a later date.
