Summerford woman encounters thieves in her home

Threatened with a knife but managed to escape; suspects arrested; police continuing investigation

On Saturday, Dec. 9 at approximately 4 p.m., Twillingate RCMP received a report of a residential robbery in progress in the community of Summerford.

A woman returned home and found two people inside her residence. She was threatened with a knife but was able to escape uninjured and alerted police.

Officers immediately responded and a 21-year-old man from Gander and 24-year old woman from Appleton were arrested. They have been charged with Robbery, Break and Enter to Commit, Disguise with Intent and Assault with a Weapon.

Numerous items were seized during the investigation including a quantity of a substance believed to be crack cocaine and a knife.

The man and woman were held in custody and appeared in Gander court on Monday, Dec. 11. The woman was released to appear at a later date. The man was set over to appear later this afternoon.
