Teenager charged in Mount Pearl seagull attack

A teenager accused of attacking a seagull with a hatchet earlier this week has been charged with a breach of Sect. 445 of the criminal code for injuring or endangering animals.

The youth was arrested and then released to the custody of his parents to be summoned to court at a later date.

According to a report made to police, a seagull was injured Monday by a student with a hatchet at Mount Pearl Senior High School. The bird was taken to a local veterinarian by city staff. It was ultimately euthanized.

The case was reported to the RNC Tuesday and the charges laid Thursday.
