St. John's, N.L. — The Telegram’s veteran photojournalist Keith Gosse has been nominated twice for a 2017 Atlantic Journalism Award.
Gosse’s two eye-catching photos are finalists in the Photojournalism News category — one for “Collision victim comforts friend” and “Devastating fire”.
The collision was a motor vehicle-pedestrian collision on Topsail Road, between Cowan Avenue and Hamlyn Road, in St. John’s on June 26, 2017, when Gosse captured the victim comforting his female friend, while the second photo was from the Aug. 28, 2017, Froude Avenue fire that left dozens homeless.
Gosse is up against one other nominee in the category, Diane Doiron of The Canadian Press, Pointe Sapin, N.B., for “The fire within.”
Gosse, who has been snapping pictures for The Telegram for the past 32 years, is no stranger to Atlantic Journalism Awards, having won two gold prizes and eight silvers in past years.
Journalists in two other Newfoundland and Labrador newspapers — The Western Star of Corner Brook and the Northern Pen of St. Anthony — also received nominations.
Diane Crocker and Troy Turner of the Western Star is nominated in the Best Page Presentation: Newspaper category, while Kyle Greenham is nominated in the Best Community Newspaper Story for his piece, “Williams Harbour resettlement,” which appeared in the Northern Pen.
Greenham, a student at the College of the North Atlantic, is also nominated in the Best Student Journalism category for the story, “Missing: a town on edge.”
The gold and silver awards will be presented at a gala reception and awards show April 28 at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront Hotel.
