For the third time in less than twenty-four hours, a pedestrian was struck by a taxi in the downtown area of St. John’s. It was confirmed on scene that a female pedestrian was struck by the taxi at the intersection of Prince of Wales Street and Fitzpatrick Avenue as she was apparently crossing the road on a crosswalk at about midnight Saturday. One of the victim’s shoes was lying under the taxi and a cell phone was sitting on the lower windshield of the cab. Some of her belongings were also left on the pavement between the crosswalk and the spot where the taxi came to a stop about ten meters away. Accident investigation officers with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary were on hand documenting the scene in the rain, taking photos and spray-painting points on the wet street. The older male driver of the taxi could also be seen sitting in the rear of a police cruiser giving a statement to an RNC patrol officer. The victim, a twenty-year-old woman, was taken to hospital by Eastern Health paramedics but an official on scene told the Telegram that the victim’s injuries did not appear life-threatening.

Early Saturday morning, two other pedestrians were struck by two different taxis at two separate locations in the downtown area. See story HERE.

Their injuries were also not thought to be life-threatening.
